School/Municipal Voucher – What Is It?
At Züri Zahni, we offer the option to complete the annual school dental examination using a school/municipal voucher. This voucher is state-subsidized and promotes dental health with the dentist of your choice. In most cases, the following services are covered:
- Dental examination
- Application of fluoride varnish to the teeth
- Two bitewing X-rays (to check for cavities on the right and left side, typically only 1-2 times during the entire school period)
Please note that various municipalities have different regulations, and their contributions to the examination costs may vary significantly.
Expiration Date of School/Municipal Voucher
School/municipal vouchers have an expiration date and must be redeemed within the current school year. If your voucher has expired, please contact your municipality or school to inquire whether costs can still be covered despite the overdue date. We kindly ask you to bring written confirmation with you to your appointment.
Quality and Cooperation
At Züri Zahni, a dental cleaning is performed during every child’s dental check-up if cooperation allows. This cleaning is necessary to remove tartar and plaque, enabling a thorough examination and accurate diagnosis. Additionally, it helps assess the child’s cooperation level and gently introduces them to potential future dental treatments.
How Does the Examination Process Work?
Our top priority is ensuring that children feel comfortable with us. Following the “tell-show-do” principle, we explain each step to the children, show them the instruments needed, and even let them touch them.
In the next step, we examine the teeth and mouth, evaluate tooth alignment, take photos, and, if there is a suspicion of cavities, X-rays are taken. This is followed by a dental cleaning to professionally remove soft plaque, tartar, and discoloration. The clean teeth are then coated with a fluoride varnish.
Finally, we discuss our observations with the children and their parents, ask about brushing and dietary habits, and provide recommendations for dental health.
If treatment is necessary, we outline the next steps, provide a cost estimate if desired, and give detailed explanations about the therapy, which often involves nitrous oxide or general anesthesia.
The dentist sends the invoice along with the school voucher to the respective municipality or school. Any services not covered by the voucher and therefore not covered by the school will be billed directly to the patient, with the invoice sent by mail.
Billing for Interrupted Sessions
Despite our extensive experience in pediatric dentistry and our dedicated, compassionate efforts, there may be instances when children are uncooperative, making treatment only partially or not at all possible. In such cases, we work in subsequent sessions to gradually build the child’s or adolescent’s cooperation by gently introducing them to the treatment process.
This approach is time- and resource-intensive. Therefore, at Züri Zahni, the planned services for the session, including consultations and the actual time spent, will be billed accordingly.
